Chairman’s Speech at the 2009 Meeting in Trossingen

Meeting of the Kriegsdorf Homeland Association held on May 23rd, 2009

Ladies and Gentlemen,
Dear fellow Countrymen,

On behalf of the HOG- Kriegsdorf Homeland association I am honored and delighted to welcome you to our yearly meeting. In particular I would like to welcome our honor Guest, Reverend Gerhard Wagner from Kriegsdorf / Romania.

It is really highly appreciated that you have taken the burden of traveling and could spend the time to participate to our yearly meeting.

Also please allow me to shortly introduce myself:
My name is Georg Erdei, I am 56 years young and am a native of Kriegsdorf.

The reason why I am able to welcome you today is because January 31st, 2009 was the hour of birth of our Association, here at this very place in Trossingen. On that day I was elected the Chairman of this Board.

The initiative of creating this Association was raised and discussed already in out meeting back in 2006. Many discussions have taken place with many of our fellow countrymen who are living today in Austria, Canada and Germany.
Of course there were many supporters but also many doubters. Fact is that following several consultation meetings and deliberations that took all place in Rastatt, the decision was taken and the HOG – The Homeland Association Kriegsdorf was established in Trossingen.

On this occasion also the Board was elected, whose Members I am very delighted to introduce in the following:

  • the deputies are Georg Hotz from Leverkusen and Christian Siegel from Trossingen
  • the treasurer is Georg Pretli from Rastatt
  • the secretary is Charlotte Vincze from Burscheid
  • the six regional representatives are
  • Anna Sinn from Rastatt
  • Elke Weniger from Trossingen
  • Martha Weniger from Trossingen
  • Johann Löscher from Hügelsheim
  • Michael Löscher from Schwenningen
  • Jakob Siegel from Singen
  • the representative for public relation (Homepage) is Ralph Sinn from Rastatt
  • the homeland representatives are Reverend Walter Sinn from Semlak/Romania and Andreas Reinbold from Schwenningen
  • the financial auditors are Rosemarie Löscher from Bad Dürrheim and Andreas Herold from Rastatt.

I would also like to take the opportunity to extend very special thanks to one of our countryman, Franz Holtz, who for personal reasons was unfortunately not able anymore to run again for a seat as a member of the Board. Franz has handed over the HOG internet site he designed for our Association entirely to the HOG. Unfortunately he was not able to join us for the today’s meeting. However, I would like to take the opportunity to thank Franz for what he is, what he stands for and what he has done for our Association over the years.

At the time the first discussions about establishing this Association started, I have been confronted many times with questions like:

  • Why should we take the burden of the work in the Association?
  • What should be our goals?
  • Why should we not leave everything as it was before?

The Krigsdorf’s fellow countrymen have been well organized throughout the time even without a Homeland Association!

I couldn’t agree more on this!
Homeland Meetings have been held over the years and were always very successful events. And I would like to take here the opportunity once again to thank to all who contributed to make these meetings a success. They have done a great job, and therefore please accept my special thanks once again.

We the Members of the Board of the HOG Kriegsdorf would like to continue this excellent work in the future with the support of all our members.

My mission as the Chairman of the Board of this Association is to establish the leadership, to best represent the HOG to the outside world and also best solve all the tasks and responsibilities assigned to me in this position.

Please allow me now on behalf of the new elected Board to introduce you to our plan on how we would like to achieve the responsibilities assigned to us, how we would like to organize our work in the future, as well as some of our objectives for which your strong support and contribution will be required as described in the following:

  • Foster common interests and relationships among the members of our Association
  • Support information exchange and distribution with the help of state -of-the art multi media
  • Involve and develop young generation’s contribution and participation to the association’s activities
  • Participate in the maintenance and care programs of the Chapels& Churches, cemeteries , as well as other public utilities and places and not-for-profit  activities in Kriegsdorf
  • Preservation and conservation of our history, transfer of our traditions and customs to the next generation

I hope that we were able to set ourselves realistic goals. Setting goals alone is not the entire story; we also have to do whatever we can to achieve them!
The means we have are not very large, not as we would like them to be; but they are also not as insignificant as some of us are afraid of – every single’s person will and determination to succeed will be of utmost importance in achieving the goals we have set together.

We want to achieve something and the success will very much depend on the collective strength of the association, as well as the financial means available to it.

Taking into account the fact that our social life in Kriegsdorf was shaped and influenced by the co-existence of the different religions, it appears to me personally of outmost importance in the first place, the maintenance and fostering of the interpersonal relationships.
Everywhere in the social communities there are always also conflicts. What it is of importance however is that nobody gets hurt or offended; relationships are often started with the eyes and brought to an end by the spoken word, with the tongue. Valuable relationships are, however always based on mutual acceptance and appreciation.

Not less important is the preservation and conservation of our common history in Krigsdorf that is older than three hundred years, as available historical records are proving.

The long way that our ancestors put up with to find a new homeland, goes slowly to an end. The reason why they were searching for their fortune precisely in Kriegsdorf was for many different reasons. Some of them were trying to escape starvation (famine); some others because they wanted to choose themselves how to believe and praise God and the most of them because of both these reasons together.

The destiny, however, brings us all back to where the journey started long time ago.
We all know where our roots are coming from and therefore let us hold strong to our history, so that the upcoming generation also can have one.

Ladies and Gentlemen, dear fellow countrymen, let us talk a little bit about something which is becoming a big problem in particular for the Lutheran Evangelic community, the situation of the cemeteries and the church.
We will clean up the cemeteries, get rid of the undergrowth, clean up and fix the gravestones, as much as possible. It is our obligation, as much as we can, to maintain the last-rest places of our ancestors in such a way that nobody can call them an eyesore, or even worse a place of shame.

Not so easy it will be the fate of the Lutheran church. Our fellow countrymen Georg Hotz and Michael Krumbacher have taken the initiative to rescue the church from eventual collapsing.
The restoration, as initially intended, is was not possible anymore since the existing damage was much bigger as it was assumed. Therefore, it was decided to very thoroughly repair the heavy damage, despite the high costs to be incurred. This was a very disputed and controversial subject, which was discussed for a long time.

But please allow me one more question to it:
“Would anybody have had a solution to satisfy everybody’s wishes and expectations?” – I think, most probably not!
Each of us should be happy that this she/he was saved taking this decision herself/himself. No matter which solutions were taken, it couldn’t have been right for everyone.
Therefore, even it was not easy for everyone, lets accept this decision; we cannot by any means accept to let the church that was erected by our ancestors as a place of peace and reflection to become a pile of rubble.

We the HOG Kriegsdorf will support this project as much as we can and will forward each and every cent we receive as donation for the Evangelic Lutheran Church to the project.

These were in short some of the goals of the newly established HOG Kriegsdorf, I wanted to present to you.

As we all know, nobody can succeed alone. Together does not mean that we always have to be of the same opinion, but it means that we together have to look for the best possible solution and work towards its successful implementation.

Therefore, dear fellow countrymen on behalf of the Board I urge you to support the HOG with all your power and help us so that we together can take the best possible decision for all the Kriegsdorf people.
Before celebrating together the church service, please allow me to thank from the bottom of my heart to every single one who contributed to making the today’s meeting a success.

Once again, many, many thanks to you all for your attention!
